FALL RIVER -- Joseph F. Gromada, 82, of South Main Street, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 1997. He was the husband of Alice A. (Makarewicz) Gromada and son of the late Edward I. and Louise (Szeregowicz) Gromada.
Born in Fall River, he was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Church.
He was employed by Lexcraft Mfg. Co. for 60 years until his retirement in 1980.
He was an organizer of the former St. Stanislaus Parent Teacher Association and was an usher at St. Stanislaus Church for 25 years.
He was a director of St. Stanislaus Federal Credit Union and a delegate to the Cyr Chapter of Federal Credit Unions.
He was a member of Stan's Seniors and the Catholic Social Services Committee of the diocese and a former member of the Pastoral Council.
He was past president of St. Stanislaus St. Vincent dePaul Society, past president of the District Council of St. Vincent dePaul Societies and past president of the Diocesan Council of St. Vincent dePaul Society.
He received the Top Hat award from the St. Vincent dePaul Society and was chirman of the Diocesan Special Works Committee of the St. Vincent dePaul Society.
He was awarded the Marian Medal in 1985, was past chairman of the Catholic Charities Appeal, past co-chairman of the Bishop's Ball, an organizing member of the Fall River Interfaith Council, honored by Citizens for Citizens for helping work with the needy of Fall River, and served on numerous civic board positions and the Democratic City Committee.
Survivors include his widow; a son, Edward M. Gromada of Lake Mary, Fla; a sister, Bertha Lawlor of Fall River; a grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Aniela Gromada and Frank J. Gromada.
Arrangements are by the Boyko Memorial Funeral Home.
